Bears Decide To Stay with Boniol
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) _ Chris Boniol is getting another chance.
The Chicago Bears worked out four kickers Tuesday but didn’t sign any of them.
``We evaluated the four kickers in a workout today and decided not to make a change at this time,″ said Mark Hatley, the Bears’ vice president of player personnel.
Boniol has missed four field goals in five games, including a 41-yard attempt in overtime of Sunday’s 27-24 loss to Minnesota. The Bears have missed 12 field goals this season, worst in the NFL.
But coach Dick Jauron said Monday that he didn’t want to make a change unless one of the four kickers _ Jon Baker, Brian Gowins, Joe Nedney and Bjorn Nittmo _ was clearly better than Boniol.
The Bears also worked out defensive end Darren Mickell, who was recently released by New Orleans.
