Correction: Dartmouth Skier-Death story

February 4, 2014

CRAFTSBURY, Vt. (AP) — In a story Feb. 1 about the death of Torin Tucker, a member of the Dartmouth College cross-country ski team, The Associated Press, relying on information provided by the college, erroneously reported the event in which he died. He died while competing in the Craftsbury Marathon, not the Vermont Carnival.

A corrected version of the story is below:

Dartmouth cross-country skier dies during Vt. race

Dartmouth cross-country skier from Idaho dies racing in Vt. event; cause under investigation

CRAFTSBURY, Vt. (AP) — Dartmouth College says that a 20-year-old member of its cross-country ski team died at an event in Vermont.

Dartmouth spokesman Rick Bender says that Torin Tucker died while competing in the Craftsbury Marathon on Saturday. Tucker is a junior from Sun Valley, Idaho.

Bender says that the junior died at the scene after attempts to resuscitate him failed. The cause of his death is still under investigation.

The team returned to campus.

Dartmouth President Philip Hanlon shared the news through a campus-wide email and urged students, faculty and staff to contact the school’s safety and security department if they or someone they know needs to speak with a counselor or chaplain.
