FLORENCE, S.C. – Aflac of the Pee Dee joined ambassadors from the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday to celebrate the agency’s new chamber membership with a ribbon cutting.
American Family Life Assurance Company (Aflac) is the largest provider of supplemental insurance in the United States.
Andy Arthur, agency district manager for the Aflac Pee Dee office, said joining the chamber was a way for the company to become more actively involved in the community.
“I wanted to become a little more connected with the community and be a part of the community,” Arthur said. “It’s exciting to see folks I know from different places around town and now, being a part of the chamber, I’ll get to know them a little better.”
As a company, Aflac has been established for more than 63 years. Arthur said he has been a part of the agency office in Florence since 2006 and that the Pee Dee branch has been at its current location — at 103 Chase Street, Suite C — for the past three years.
“I wanted to help folks and do something that I liked,” Arthur said when speaking about why he got involved in insurance.
Aflac is famously known for its mascot, the Aflac Duck. Arthur said the duck came about late in 1999, and now the company must focus on protecting its brand and continuing to be there for its customers.
Arthur said Aflac provides employee benefits to businesses of all sizes from three employees up. The services can complement an existing plan or can be offered solely as a supplemental to employees.
“We offer other solutions that can help a business retain employees, attract good employees and, at the same time, offer them something affordable,” Arthur said.
