ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — The search for a Frenchman has been suspended after his kayak was found along the coast of Alaska’s Katmai National Park and Preserve.
Katmai Chief Ranger Neal Labrie says the search was suspended late Saturday afternoon for Francois Guenot.
A kayak with Guenot’s identification, food, maps and personal journals inside was found Friday south of Cape Douglas, along Shelikof Strait.
Labrie says Guenot’s last journal entry was dated June 15. The Anchorage Daily News reports (http://is.gd/3CLoLS) he was last heard from May 26.
The search included planes flying along the coast and a Coast Guard boat off the shore.
In a January 2012 interview with the Yukon News, a newspaper in Whitehorse, Guenot said he began traveling across Canada and Alaska in 2011.
