La Porte girls tennis stays unbeaten

Alaina Majors and Rachel Kaminski posted shutouts and Allison Varda dropped just one game as the unbeaten La Porte girls tennis team whitewashed Knox 5-0 on Wednesday. Katelyn Friis and Emma Keene won at one doubles, 6-0, 6-2, while Molly Reed and Aniya Kennedy did the same at two, 6-1, 6-1.

LC doubles up LP baseball

A five-run third inning carried Lake Central to a 6-3 Duneland Conference baseball victory over La Porte on Wednesday. Parker Hill allowed all six runs over four innings, striking out four. Zach Purnell, Jacob Spence, Connor Stalbaum, Carson Crass, Brock Lipscomb and Kared Pinkerton all had hits for LP.

Slicers boys golf splits tri match

Max Holmes carded a 41 in his return from injury as the La Porte boys golf team (4-4, 3-2) split a Duneland Conference triangular with Crown Point and Portage, 162-189-198, on Wednesday at Beechwood. Cas Pulaski added a 47 with Mason Jones carding a 50. Jackson Cizewski and Graham Siefker each turned in 51s.

Portage outlasts La Porte softball

La Porte rallied to take the lead in the seventh inning but Portage answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to pull out a wild 8-7 Duneland Conference softball victory Wednesday. Megan Reed had a two-run home run in the first. She, Morgan Keen, Sophie Sorg, Emily Samuelson, and Morgan Machler all produced multiple hits.

Rain, rain, go away

Wet conditions prompted another wave of prep sports postponements Wednesday. La Porte postponed its home JV softball game with Portage and its JV baseball game at Lake Central. The games have not been rescheduled yet. The Slicers have added a varsity softball doubleheader May 18 at Carroll (Fort Wayne).

South Central has re-slated its home softball and baseball games with Boone Grove for today, while the boys golf match at Hamlet with LaCrosse, Morgan Townhip and Oregon-Davis has been bumped to May 10.

The makeup date for Michigan City’s JV/varsity softball games with Crown Point is May 9. The baseball games at Chesterton will be played Friday with Tuesday’s home rainouts with the Trojans to be made up Monday, which forces the cancellation of the South Central game. Today’s JV softball game at South Central is also off and the boys golf match with Merrillville and Chesterton will be rescheduled.

Marquette’s home softball game with Knox and away baseball game was Lake Station have been canceled.

La Porte Baseball Summer Camp in June

The La Porte Slicer baseball coaching staff and players will conduct the annual summer baseball camp June 10-June 13 for students currently in Kindergarten through fifth grade, at Schreiber Field. Times are: K-second grade, 10-11:25 a.m.; and third-fifth grade, 11:30 a.m.-12:55 p.m. Cost of the camp will be $40 per player. Players should wear tennis shoes or cleats, shorts, sweat pants, or baseball pants and a T-shirt. Players should bring baseball gloves. Instructors will be La Porte High School baseball players and coaches. Registration due date is June 4. Players will receive a T-shirt, but they can’t assure T-shirt sizes on late registrations. Leadership La Porte County Golf Outing

The Leadership La Porte County 17th Annual Golf Outing will be May 17 from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Michigan City Municipal Golf Course. Each team will participate in a shotgun start, best ball scramble event. There will be prizes for the top performers, lunch and many great door prizes. Cost to attend is $300 per team. Purchase a tee sign for $100.

La Porte County Lions Club golf tourney

Six La Porte County Lions Clubs have again organized a golf tournament on May 24. Let’s Golf for Charity will be at Beechwood with a scramble format. There’s no rain date. Registration and a light lunch begin at 10:30 a.m., chipping and putting contests at 11:30 a.m., and the shotgun start will be at noon. Dinner, team awards and cash bar begin at 4:30 p.m.

The cost to play is $75 per golfer, $300 per team, which includes golf, cart, lunch, dinner, goodie bag, team and individual awards. Deadline for entries is May 10. The limit is 144 golfers, first come, first served. The entry form can be downloaded at: www.rollingprairielions.org, from Beechwood Golf Course, or from a Lion. 2019-20 Slicer athletic physicals

The La Porte High School athletic department is now scheduling appointments for athletic physicals for the 2019-20 school year for athletes that are presently in grades 8-11. Physicals will be conducted on May 9 from 5-8 p.m. in the main gym at La Porte High School at a cost of $20. Slicer Athletic Booster Club Golf Outing

The inaugural Slicer Athletic Booster Club Golf Outing will be on May 19 at Beechwood Golf Course with registration and lunch at noon and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Information concerning hole sponsorships, or to register a team may be found on the La Porte High School athletic department website, by contacting the LPHS athletic department, or emailing Ed Gilliland at egilliland@lpcsc.k12.in.us.

St. Stan’s 5K June 1

St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church will hold the seventh annual St. Stanislaus 5K run on June 1 at Nelson Park in Trail Creek. Race proceeds will fund needed repairs to St. Stanislaus Church, one of LaPorte County’s oldest Catholic churches.

The race course treks through the beautiful surroundings of Nelson Park and Trail Creek. Unique plaques will be given in eight age divisions for women, men and children, plus the top three overall female and male runners and the top female and male walkers.
