HANOVER, N.H. (AP) _ Greg Hoffmeister returned a punt 80 yards for a touchdown and Hunter Buckner an interception 21 yards for another in the fourth quarter as Dartmouth beat Cornell 31-25 Saturday to take the Ivy League lead.

Cornell scored with 1:17 left and again on the last play of the game.

Hoffmeister’s dash put Dartmouth (4-2, 3-0) ahead 24-13 with 10 minutes left. About five minutes later, Buckner snatched a pass by Bill Lazor to put the game out of reach.

Cornell (2-4, 1-2) scored twice in the last 67 seconds on John McNiff’s 2- yard run and Lazor’s 16-yard pass to Pete Reynolds after a fumble recovery. The Big Red pulled within four points midway through the third quarter when a punt by Dartmouth’s Jay Fiedler from his end zone was blocked, and Ed Groszewski recovered for a touchdown.

Dartmouth took a 10-0 lead on its first two possessions. It marched 73 yards with the opening kickoff and scored on Neal Martin’s 2-yard run. After John McNiff fumbled on Cornell’s first possession, Dartmouth drove 24 yards to set up a 39-yard field goal by Dennis Durkin.

Cornell got its first touchdown following a 63-yard drive that ended when Lazor hit Andy Martin for 12 yards.

Dartmouth then drove 68 yards for a 17-7 lead on Fiedler’s 6-yard pass to Mike Bobo. The Big Green missed another chance before the half when Hoffmeister fumbled at the Cornell 5 with less than a minute left.
