Sea Hero To Be Sold in November
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) _ Sea Hero, winner of the 1993 Kentucky Derby, will be part of the dispersal of the late Paul Mellon’s thoroughbreds at the 13-day November Breeding Stock Sale at Keeneland.
A near-record 4,862 horses and two stallion shares are cataloged for the sale, which begins Nov. 7 and concludes Nov. 19.
The total number of lots is 65 less than cataloged last year.
The November sale has become the world’s largest thoroughbred breeding stock auction.
The first day will include four major dispersals _ Georgia Hofmann and her Wycombe House Stud, Robert and Bea Roberts, Mellon’s estate and Silverleaf Farms.
The next day, Satish Sanan, who has become a major influence in the thoroughbred industry, will sell 14 horses.
Sanan will sell two mares who are pregnant to A.P. Indy; mares in foal to Gone West and Woodman; and weanlings by Sadler’s Wells, Mr. Prospector and Seeking the Gold.
``There is a lot of quantity in the sale, but we think that there is a lot of quality, too,″ said Geoffrey G. Russell, Keeneland’s assistant director of sales.
``There are quality mares and quality foals. There’s some very nice racing prospects and horses currently in training and racing. We are very hopeful that the strong market will continue.″
