Jeffrey Gaines: Playing ‘Alright’ at The Kate
Soulful singer/songwriter/guitarist Jeffrey Gaines, known for soul-searching lyrics and powerful live performances, will play the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center Friday, Jan. 4.
Gaines, from Harrisburg, Pa., is backed by only his voice and a guitar. He released “Always Be” (Artemis) in 1992, including his emotional interpretation of “In Your Eyes” and his own “Always Be.” The album reached No. 45 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart. He has several more albums now and in, January 2018, he released “Alright,” his first collection of new songs in 15 years.
“The whole experience of making this album was just a joy from beginning to end,” Gaines said in a news release. “We didn’t have a lot of time, so there was no fooling around. We just went in and knocked it out. Everybody played great, so it was an inspiring situation.”
The title is a reflection of the mood in the studio during recording. “It’s just what everybody kept saying over and over again while we were making the record,” he says. “People would come into the studio and listen to a track and say ‘Hey, that’s alright!’”
New Haven-based singer/songwriter Ponybird (singer-songwriter Jennifer Dauphinais) will open the show.
