Slasher Gets Five Years Probation
NEW YORK (AP) _ A man who slashed an actress and another pedestrian in the face with a razor blade was sentenced Wednesday to five years probation.
Peter Bedford, 20, attacked Swedish-born actress Viveca Lindfors, 72, and Dennis Beal, 38, on Jan. 13, 1990. The attacks took place three blocks and five minutes apart.
Lindfors needed 27 stitches to close the cuts in her face; Beal’s wounds took 40 stitches.
Bedford was allowed to plead guilty to first-degree attempted assault, a misdemeanor, because the victims were unable to positively identify him.
Lindfors, who began her film career in Sweden in 1940, won acting honors at the Berlin Film Festival for her performances in ″Four in a Jeep″ (1951) and ″No Exit″ (1962).
