PipeSounds to present local guest musician

HURRICANE — PipeSounds, the symphonic organ concert series, will present Marshall “Mike” Barnhouse at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, at Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church, 2848 Putnam Avenue in Hurricane.

Barnhouse will perform a “Symphonic Mosaic” Organ Concert on Forrest Burdette’s world-class Harrah Symphonic Organ.

Barnhouse is a pianist, composer, teacher and recording artist who has spent his life pursuing his love of music since the age of 8. In every setting, his goal is to guide others into the beautiful, expressive, and spiritual qualities of musical experience, according to a news release from PipeSounds.

Barnhouse, who has a masters of piano performance, has performed different genres of music in various venues throughout his professional career. He is a retired public school music teacher, maintains a private studio in Hurricane and serves as organist/accompanist at Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church where he plays the world-famous Harrah Symphonic Organ.

Throughout his career, he has composed music for piano, bands, choirs, handbells and orchestra. He has published works with Augsburg Fortress Press, GIA Publications and World Library Publications.

He currently is working toward launching his own publishing company, Pinnacle View Music.

Barnhouse has recorded two CDs and will record his third in July 2019 at Piano Haven, in Sedona, Arizona. His CD, “Awakened” is currently playing on Enlightened Piano Radio (EPR), Whisperings Solo Piano Radio, Journeyscapes Radio and One World Music Radio.

He was awarded Best New Artist at the EPR Awards at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee, in September 2017. He was also nominated for Best Christian Album by solopiano.com.

Barnhouse performed in the Discovery Concert featuring new artists with Whisperings Solo Piano Radio in Atlanta in February 2019. His most recent nomination is for “Best Solo Album” with EPR where he will perform at the awards ceremony at the Place des Arts in Montreal, Canada, in October 2019.

This is Barnhouse’s second organ recital on the Harrah Symphonic Organ. He also performed Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with Peter Conte at the organ and Barnhouse on piano. He strives to perform music that showcases the Harrah Symphonic Organ.
