Dallas Mavericks’ Nelson, Harris Ejected
SAN ANTONIO (AP) _ Dallas Mavericks coach Don Nelson was ejected late in the first quarter of Wednesday night’s Game 2 of the Western Conference finals against the San Antonio Spurs.
And with about two minutes left in the first half, Mavericks assistant Del Harris was thrown out of the game for walking to the baseline near the Dallas basket to shout at referee Joe Crawford in a game that saw seven technicals called in the first two quarters. Crawford also ejected Nelson.
Dallas was trailing 63-36 when Harris was ejected and San Antonio led 69-44 at halftime.
Crawford hit Nelson with two technical fouls in a matter of seconds after the coach argued a foul call against Dallas forward Raef LaFrentz with 2:46 left in the quarter.
LaFrentz was called for a foul on San Antonio’s Tim Duncan, the eighth foul against Dallas. Only three had been called on San Antonio.
Dallas assistant Donnie Nelson, Nelson’s son, took over coaching duties after his father walked off the floor.
The technicals were the second and third of the game called by Crawford. The first was called on Dallas forward Dirk Nowitzki about four minutes earlier.
Following Nelson’s ejection, technical fouls were called on Mavericks guard Nick Van Exel and Spurs forward Bruce Bowen.
After Harris left the floor, a technical foul was called on Spurs center Kevin Willis.
