Walmart Pickup Tower launches at La Porte Supercenter

October 12, 2018

La PORTE – The Walmart Supercenter, at 333 Boyd Blvd., launched a new retail innovation program for area customers last week. A Walmart Pickup Tower is now up and running at the La Porte supercenter.

“Walmart is always looking to add additional avenues to help our local customers shop with ease,” said Store Manager Paul Grice. “The Pickup Tower, along with our new grocery pickup service, are just two of the ways Walmart is bringing technology to retail and adding further convenience for our La Porte shoppers just in time for the holiday shopping season.”

LaPorte residents may have noticed the 16-foot-tall Pickup Tower that was recently installed in the front of the store. Much like a high-tech vending machine, the Walmart Pickup Tower allows customers to pick up their online orders in less than a minute by scanning a bar code sent to their smartphone. To use the Tower, customers simply choose from millions of items available on Walmart.com and select the pickup option at checkout.

In August, the supercenter also launched online grocery pickup for those customers looking to shop from their homes. The free Online Grocery Pickup service enables customers to order groceries online and pick them up at their local Walmart store without even leaving their cars. The service features 40,000 items with more than 90 percent of customers choosing to add fresh meat, dairy or produce to their baskets. Other top items selected by grocery pickup shoppers include after school snacks, diapers and large dog food bags.
