MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ Electronics retailer Best Buy and Internet service provider Prodigy Communications are teaming for a promotion targeting consumers who haven’t yet bought personal computers.
They’re offering rebates of up to $400 on purchase of a new PC with Prodigy Internet Service.
Prodigy says the effect could be to make entry level PCs free.
The Wall Street Journal reports the online service leader, America Online, is planning a similar promotion.
About half of U.S. homes have personal computers. Of those, about half are logging on to the Internet.
