Lady Dust Devils defeat Dysart 4-1: River Valley notches second victory of 2019
MOHAVE VALLEY — The host Lady Dust Devils topped the visiting Dysart High School Lady Demons 4-1 during their Arizona Interscholastic Association Division II, Section IV beach volleyball match at River Valley High School on Wednesday.
“My girls had to deal with a lot more wind than we’re used to this year,” said the No. 24-ranked Dust Devils (2-9 overall) head coach John Bundy about the Mohave Valley winds that exceeded 25 mph during the late afternoon. “And I think they did very very well controlling the serves, controlling hits and using the wind to their advantage when they could.”
Dust Devils freshman Mackenzy Perritt and Sara Kasinak, No. 5 team, beat Demons sophomore Brythania Melo and freshman Jessica Jacobo 2-0; River Valley sophomore Bradyn Cunningham-junior Sidnee Campbell, No. 4, defeated Dysart freshmen Eva Sotelo-Briana Torres 2-0; and Dust Devils sophomores Zooey Bruner-Allison Wheatcroft, No. 1, blanked Demons junior Karla Ratliff-junior Aniya Hughes 2-0.
River Valley freshman Cassie Gill-sophomore Harmony Owens, No. 3, edged Dysart freshmen Izabella Castro-Madison Marrrujo 2-1; Demons senior Emma Gulczynski-junior Katelin Arrellin knocked off Dust Devils junior Bruke Zozaya-freshman Rachel Doolin 2-0.
“I think — overall — the pairs are communicating better this game than they have in a number of the previous ones,” Bundy said.
