Former Head of Helicopter Company Dies
ROME (AP) _ Corrado Agusta, former chairman of Gruppo Agusta, one of Europe’s leading helicopter manufacturers, has died in Switzerland. He was 66.
Agusta died in St. Moritz on Wednesday, the company said. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Agusta, who had been involved in the manufacture of motorcycles, took over the family firm in 1971 upon the death of his brother. He increased sales of military helicopters, particularly to Iran, thanks to his friendship with the late shah.
The firm gradually came under control of an Italian state holding company and he relinquished the chairmanship in 1984.
