Party Line Disconnected After Playing Role in Rape
DETROIT (AP) _ A telephone party line that police say led to the rape of an 11-year-old girl has been disconnected.
Police say the girl was raped Saturday in her home after giving her address to a man she talked to on the line. She got the number from a friend in school.
″We’re trying to find out exactly what went wrong with this and how this occurred,″ said Nick Loder, president of Lo-Ad, the Reno, Nev., company that operated the line. He said Wednesday that the number was permanently disconnected.
Tyrone Lambert, 24, was arraigned Wednesday in 36th District Court on two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
After the girl gave her address to the man she talked to on the party line, Lambert and another man came to her house and were let in by her 8-year-old brother, police said.
The girl told police the men took her into a bedroom and assaulted her.
Lambert was ordered held on $20,000 bond awaiting a March 4 hearing. Police are searching for the second man.
