Keane, Brown in Doubt for Asian Tour
MANCHESTER, England (AP) _ Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson will decide next week whether captain Roy Keane and defender Wes Brown will miss Manchester United’s preseason tour of Hong Kong, China and Japan.
Tour organizers said Thursday that the pair, as well as Argentine defender Gabriel Heinze, wouldn’t travel to Hong Kong next Thursday for United’s four-match, eight-day program.
Ferguson confirmed Heinze won’t make the trip, but said Keane and Brown _ who are sidelined with unspecified injuries _ might still play.
``We will be making a decision on Tuesday or Wednesday about whether they travel but we are keen for them to join us,″ Ferguson told Britain’s Press Association. ``By the time we come home, we will only have one more game before the Champions League qualifier on either Aug. 9 or 10, so the tour is crucial to everyone’s preparation.″
Heinze is being given a rest after playing for Argentina in the Confederations Cup in Germany.
United will play Hong Kong’s national side, Beijing Hyundai and J-League clubs Kashima Antlers and Urawa Red Diamonds.
