Rocks’ Helton Not in Lineup

August 29, 2000

PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ Colorado’s Todd Helton, who leads the majors with a .397 batting average, wasn’t in the starting lineup for Tuesday night’s game with the Philadelphia Phillies.

``Todd felt a slight twinge in his back after a swing last night,″ Colorado batting coach Clint Hurdle said. ``It’s nothing serious. He could have started and played the entire game with no problem. This just seemed like a good time to give him a night off.″

Philadelphia’s Omar Daal, Tuesday’s starter, has been one of the few pitchers to get Helton out in his career. Helton is 3-for-17 in (.176) with five strikeouts.

Butch Huskey, acquired from Minnesota on July 16, started in Helton’s place.

Helton went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles in Monday’s 3-2 loss to the Phillies. He had played in 129 of the Rockies first 131 games.
