This is a homecoming game for the senior forward, who used to play 20 minutes from the Billikens’ campus at Incarnate Word Academy.Collier, who was born in Jefferson City, Mo., and later moved to St. Louis, was a three-time Gatorade State Player of the Year and a finalist for the Naismith Award as a senior. She led her high school to three state championships and was ranked by ESPN as the sixth-best recruit in the Class of 2015.Collier’s father, Gamal, said the family had an allotment of 334 tickets to hand out for the game. The Billikens’ average attendance is only 506.“I’m really excited,” she said on Sunday. “I haven’t played in front of them live. It’s going to be really cool to have pretty much everyone I know in St. Louis.”Collier also was scheduled to have her high school jersey retired on Monday. Those plans happened to catch her by surprise.“I didn’t know it was happening,” she said. “I didn’t even know it was an option. I don’t think they’ve done it before. I might be wrong, but I’ve never seen a jersey up there. So, it’s a really cool thing for me.“I do give so much credit to that program and my high school coach [Dan Rolfes].”This season, Collier is averaging 18.0 points and a career-best 10.6 rebounds per game. We’re No. 1: UConn is back in a familiar spot. The 11-time national champions rose a slot to take over as the No. 1 team in the AP poll on Monday, one day after beating then-top-ranked Notre Dame 89-71 on the road. They received all 31 first-place votes. The Huskies were ranked No. 1 heading into last year’s NCAA Tournament, but ended the year at No. 3 following their overtime loss to Notre Dame in the Final Four. And with four starters back, the Fighting Irish topped the poll to begin this season. When asked on Sunday about the prospect of moving atop the poll, Auriemma said, “The poll comes out and we’re No. 1, I don’t think that changes what we do at practice; I don’t think that changes anything. I think it makes maybe our players feel like, ‘Well, we’re No. 1 because we did earn it. ... We’re not No. 1 because somebody voted it.’ We earned it. That’s a good feeling for them.”Trending in the right direction: St. Louis has rebounded nicely from a tough start to the season. Three straight wins have the Billikens back to .500 at 4-4. They’re coming off a 63-56 win over SIU Edwardsville on Saturday, in which guard Jordyn Frantz scored 17 points.Frantz, a 6-foot senior, leads the team with 15.0 points per game.PROBABLE STARTERSUConnPlayerPos.PPGCrystal DangerfieldG13.1Christyn WilliamsG13.3Katie Lou SamuelsonG19.3Megan WalkerF11.6Napheesa CollierF18.0St. LouisPlayerPos.PPGCiaja HarbisonG13.6Myia ClarkG4.5Jordyn FrantzG15.0Kerri McMahanG6.0Kendra WilkenF7.3-Doug Bonjour
