South Carolina hospital lays off nearly 100 employees
ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina hospital has laid off nearly 100 employees and eliminated 65 vacant positions.
Local media report that AnMed Health in Anderson has laid off 94 employees, including both full-time and part-time employees.
Hospital spokesman Ross Norton said the workers were told Tuesday and Wednesday. Norton said no more layoffs are expected now.
Employees in radiology, lab technicians, security personnel, marketing and volunteer services were among those who lost jobs.
The hospital system said in a news release that lower reimbursement rates, fewer patients and investment in new technology have resulted in a budgeted loss on operations this year.
The hospital has about 460 beds and is the largest employer in Anderson County. The job reductions represent about 4 percent of its workforce.
