Bennington approves a solar project, rejects another
BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) — The Bennington, Vermont, Select Board has voted to support a solar energy project proposed by a New York developer while rejecting another proposal.
Members voted unanimously to support the Battle Creek I project, but voted unanimously against the controversial Chelsea solar project. The Bennington Banner reports both ground-mounted solar installations are being proposed by subsidiaries of Allco Renewable Energy.
Assistant Town Manager Dan Monks says planning commissioners were clear that the Chelsea project did not fit with the town’s language.
The Public Utilities Commission previously denied Chelsea a certificate of public good in 2016. An appeal to the Vermont Supreme Court was later dropped.
Battle Creek I still needs a certificate of public good from PUC. A site visit is scheduled for Dec. 4.
