Orica-GreenEDGE owner Ryan takes Australia role
MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Gerry Ryan, the owner of Pro Tour team Orica-GreenEDGE, has replaced Klaus Mueller as president of Cycling Australia.
Mueller quit in August after more than three years in the job and in the wake of a report by the Australian Sports Commission critical of the governance of cycling in the country.
The appointment of Ryan, a long-time financial backer of cycling in Australia, was welcomed by the Australian Olympic Committee.
AOC president John Coates said Ryan had made a “tremendous contribution” over two decades to individual Olympic champions and as a sponsor of cycling tours, teams and programs.
Coates says Ryan ” is committed to the sport and his drive and passion in the role of CA President will be of great benefit to cyclists at all levels.”
