Odd phone booth _ an art project _ pops up in Boston area

November 6, 2018

SOMERVILLE, Mass. (AP) — A strange phone booth encased in blue tarps and a tin roof that recently appeared in the greater Boston area is an art project meant to make people contemplate the changing climate of the Earth.

“The Hydrophone” is located outside the Somerville Museum and went up in the middle of October as part of a community-curated museum project. The Boston Globe reports pedestrians who enter the phone booth and pick up the receiver will hear a bizarre message from the “Weather Man” warning about climate change in the year 2200.

Artist Kate Sokol says her project is meant to explore what the climate future might sound like.

She says she teamed with the Boston-based online performance art account “WEATHER IS HAPPENNING” to create the project.
