Zimbabwe 5, Seychelles 0
BULAWAYO, Zimbabwe (AP) _ In its first game since 13 fans died from a stampede during a World Cup qualifier last weekend, Zimbabwe beat the Seychelles 5-0 Sunday in a qualifier for the African Nations Cup.
The game was moved to Barbourfields Stadium after FIFA banned the use of Harare’s National Sports Stadium, where police fired tear gas into the stands July 9, setting off the stampede, during Zimbabwe’s 2-0 loss to South Africa.
The Zimbabwean team wore black arm bands in respect for the casualties, and a minute of silence was observed before the game.
Luke Petros scored twice for Zimbabwe, and Blessing Makunike, Peter Ndlovu and Nqobizita Ncube scored one goal each. Zimbabwe advanced, winning the home-and-home series 6-0.
