Girls hockey | Lourdes plays well, falls in OT against state-ranked Eagan
EAGAN -- Rochester Lourdes went on the road and played another talented Class AA opponent to a close game, but Eagan’s Brooke Peplinski scored 3:36 into overtime to give her team a 3-2 victory in a girls hockey game Saturday.
Eagan, 12-1-0 overall and ranked No. 13 in the state in Class AA, opened the scoring 11:02 into the second period on a power-play goal Julia Barger.
Lourdes answered almost immediately, as Emma Schmitz scored on a power play at 14:02 to tie the score 1-1. Just 65 seconds later, Clara Billings notched a power-play goal to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
Jenna Ruiz tied the score for the Wildcats at 6:13 of the third period, forcing overtime and setting up Peplinski’s game winner.
The Eagles received 29 saves from Corrin Hanson.
Lourdes, ranked No. 6 in the state in Class A, is now 6-5-1 overall. Its five losses have come by a combined six goals.
The Eagles are back in action this week at the Schwan’s Cup in Blaine. They face Duluth at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the opening round.
