United Utah Party members turn out for organizing convention

October 28, 2017

DRAPER, Utah (AP) — The United Utah Party is small in numbers but proving itself to be no shirker in terms of getting its members to turn out for a party gathering.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the fledging party had 35 people at its Salt Lake County organizing convention Saturday. That number represents more than half of the party’s 66 registered-voter members in the county.

The party has only 166 registered members statewide, while there are close to 720,000 Republicans, nearly 180,000 Democrats and over 600,000 unaffiliated voters.

Newly elected county Chairman Brian Fabbit says the party hopes to be a home for independents and for disaffected Democrats and Republicans in the middle of the political spectrum.
