Son of China’s Leader Says Father In Good Health
BRASILIA, Brazil (AP) _ Deng Pufang, the son of China’s aged leader Deng Xiaoping, said Wednesday that his father is in good health.
``My father’s health is good and he will celebrate his 92nd birthday tomorrow (Thursday),″ Pufang told The Associated Press following a meeting with government officials to discuss the treatment of the disabled in Brazil.
The elder Deng last appeared in public more than two years ago.
Deng Pufang became a paraplegic after he was thrown out a window during the 1966-76 Cultural Revolution. He uses a wheelchair for transportation, and is the president of China’s Disabled Persons Federation. Earlier this month, he attended the Paralympics in Atlanta.
Deng Pufang will visit Brasilia, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro before leaving Brazil Aug. 27.
