Tyson Accused of Sexual Battery in Chicago Bar by Indiana Woman
CHICAGO (AP) _ A 25-year-old woman filed a police complaint Tuesday accusing boxer Mike Tyson of sexual battery in a bar on Chicago’s South Side over the weekend, her attorney said.
The boxer, who is on probation after serving time in Indiana for rape, had not been charged as of Tuesday night.
The woman, a beautician from Gary, Indiana, said she was attacked Sunday night. She was treated at a Chicago-area hospital and called police after she was released early Monday, said her attorney, Jerry Lee Peteet of Gary.
Chicago Police Detective Steve Glynn confirmed there was a report filed against Tyson and said it was under investigation.
A man who answered the phone at Tyson’s residence said there would be no comment from the boxer.
Charles Wizard, the manager at The Clique, said he was not on duty Sunday night and that the manager who was on duty that night was not available.
Peteet said the woman, whom he would not identify, had gone to the bar with friends and had never met Tyson before.
Tyson, once the undisputed world heavyweight champion, was convicted in 1992 of raping Desiree Washington, a Coventry, R.I., college student then competing in the Miss Black America pageant in Indianapolis.
Tyson served three years and now is on a four-year probationary term.
In 1986, at 20, Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion ever. Tyson regained the WBC heavyweight title last month with a third-round victory over Frank Bruno.
Tyson has said he wants to win the WBA and IBF heavyweight titles to again unify all three titles.
Tyson’s police record dates to 1978, when as a 12-year-old, he was picked up for purse snatching. He discovered boxing in reform school.
