PLAINVIEW — A celebration of life for Judith A. Asmussen, 70, Plainview, will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at the First Congregational Church in Plainview. Burial will be private.
Ashburn Funeral Home of Plainview is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials can be directed to the Plainview Public Library.
She passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018, surrounded by her family.
Judy Asmussen was born on March 10, 1948, in Watertown, S.D., to Dale and Magdalene (Walsh) Johnson. She grew up in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School in 1966. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D., in 1970.
Judy married Bruce Asmussen on July 11, 1970, in Watertown. They moved to O’Neill, where she worked as a special education teacher. They relocated to Plainview in 1974, where she focused on raising their two children for several years. She then returned to work in various positions, including receptionist at the Plainview Hospital and at Plainview Public Schools as a substitute teacher and teacher’s aide.
Her favorite hobbies included spending time with her family, reading, sewing, quilting, collecting antiques and decorating for holidays, especially Christmas. She was well known for her green thumb and loved spending time in her garden and flower beds. She was a member of the Plainview Library Board for several years.
Judy is survived by her spouse, Bruce of Plainview; a daughter, Michele (Matt) Martindale of Omaha; a son, Ryan Asmussen of Fort Worth, Texas; a grandson, Nickolaus; a brother, Gene (Lavada) Johnson of Hot Springs, Ark.; her brothers-in-law, Larry (Barb) Asmussen, Gary (Birgitta) Asmussen, Steve (Elaine) Asmussen, Brian (Ginny) Asmussen and Kevin (Carol) Asmussen; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
