Mt. Carmel volleyball drops home opener
MOUNT CARMEL -- In their first game of the season, Mt. Carmel varsity volleyball dropped their opener to Carmi White County High School in three sets, 25-17, 23-25 and 20-25 at Mt. Carmel High School on Monday, Aug. 20.
Head coach Kelsey Beckerman’s squad looked sharp to open the night, aggressively jumping to a 16-4 lead in the first set and ultimately seizing the first set and the lead.
The second set looked to be much of the same as the Golden Aces maintained a 23-19 lead -- a lead they could not control, as the Bulldogs went on a run to tie it up and force a third set by winning the set 25-23.
The third set was back and forth prior to a late close out by Carmi White. They ultimately went on to win 25-20 and win the match.
Freshman and JV: Mt. Carmel swept the freshman and JV matches, winning 25-20, 15-11 and the latter 27-25, 26-24 respectively.
Stats: Junior Madeline Goldman led Mt. Carmel in aces and kills, having six and 12 respectively. Fellow junior Kassidy Drone led the Aces in assists with 26. Sophomore McKenna Golden led the team in blocks with two. Lastly, junior Addie Drone had the most digs with 15.
The Lady Golden Aces will look to bounce back on the road against Lawrenceville on Aug. 21 and return home against Edwards County High School on Aug. 23, at which the freshman begin at 5:15 p.m., JV begin at 6:15 p.m. and varsity begins at 7:15 p.m.
