Illinois high school honors 107-year-old alumnus

ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) — A Rockford high school has honored a 107-year-old alumnus for his support.

Harlem High School honored Bill Burkman with a Huskie Pride Award. It happened Wednesday at Wesley Willows senior living community in Rockford. Burkman is the school’s oldest living graduate.

The Rockford Register Star reports (http://bit.ly/18rbvSs) that Burkman played for the school’s first football team in 1923. He graduated in 1924. He’s five years older than the Harlem School District. The district was founded in 1910.

Harlem High School is in Machesney Park, just north of Rockford.
