Peyton Manning recorded goofy congrats for Brees

October 9, 2018

If you didn’t see this Monday night, Peyton Manning recorded a video to congratulate Drew Brees on breaking his all-time career passing yards record though he did it with typical Peyton humor.

The video played in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome after Brees broke the record Monday night, in the middle of the New Orleans Saints’ 43-19 drubbing of the Washington Redskins.

Someone decided Manning should be casually slicing tomatoes when the video opens. He was told by someone off-camera that Brees just broke his passing yards record.

“Oh, OK. So I still have the touchdown record, right?” Manning asked.

But he was told Brees is on pace to break that record (539) too. Brees finished Monday with 499, one short of Tom Brady.

“Drew, for a thousand days I’ve held the record for all-time passing yards in the NFL. And I gotta tell you, it’s been the greatest a thousand days in my life,” Manning said. “And thanks to you, that’s over now and you’ve ruined that for me. So thank you very much. I have nothing left to look forward to except slicing my tomatoes, making dinner for my family, putting together this wedge salad.”

The comedic quarterback continued the bit a little longer before offering his sincere congratulations.

The two go way back, as Manning revealed when he showed a picture of the pair from 2000, before Brees had finished college and long before Manning was the superstar quarterback he would become.

Manning is also from New Orleans, and his father Archie played quarterback for the Saints.
