Southern California heat triggers power outages
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Southern California heat wave is winding down but utility crews are still working to restore electricity to thousands of people.
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power says about 12,000 customers remain without power early Monday.
A massive dome of high pressure over the West sent temperatures soaring well into triple digits on Friday and the stifling conditions continued through the weekend.
The city utility says its crews restored power to 57,000 customers between the start of the heat wave and 6 p.m. Sunday, but continued overloading of circuits led to recurring outages in some neighborhoods.
Outages are also reported in areas served by Southern California Edison.
