Russian Runs Season’s Fastest 800
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) _ Russia’s Irina Mistyukevich ran the fastest women’s 800 meters in the world this year at the Znamensky Brothers Memorial IAAF meet Sunday.
Mistyukevich was timed in 1 minute, 57.49 seconds at Petrovsky Stadium, followed by compatriot Olga Raspopova in 1:58.91.
Another world-class performance came from Russia’s Vladimir Malyavin, who long-jumped 27 feet, three-quarters inch, the best mark by a European this season.
Emmanuel Sunday of Nigeria won the men’s 100 in 10.36 and Russia’s Anton Galkin took the 400 in 46.09.
