Kiara Leslie, Mystics’ first-round pick, out 3-4 months after knee surgery
Washington Mystics guard Kiara Leslie had arthroscopic surgery to repair the meniscus in her right knee, the team announced Monday.
Leslie, the 10th overall pick in the 2019 WNBA Draft out of NC State, is expected back in three to four months. That means she will miss most of her rookie regular season.
Mystics coach Mike Thibault first alluded to Leslie’s injury last week on the team’s preseason media day May 6, saying they were checking out her injury that day. Team physician Lisa Yadao performed Leslie’s surgery Friday.
“Luckily, I said on draft day that we don’t need our draft picks to come in and be saviors for us,” Thibault said. “They just need to try to fit in. We have enough ammunition with the group that we have.”
The Mystics have one more preseason game Friday at Atlanta before the regular season opens May 25 at Connecticut.
