Company gets OK to build Maine’s biggest lobster operation
SACO, Maine (AP) — A Maine seafood company has obtained the final permit to develop the largest lobster processing operation in the state.
Ready Seafood wants to build the $10 million facility in Saco to process, store and research lobsters. The Portland Press Herald reports the city’s planning board has unanimously approved the plan to build a 64,000-square-foot facility.
The company plans to hire as many as 50 people for the new operation. It expects to complete the facility in 12 to 14 months and expects to be able to handle 100,000 pounds of lobster every day.
Ready plans to break ground on Oct. 1. An acquisition of Ready Seafood by Canadian specialty foods company Premium Brands is also pending.
