Russian Bojber Jet Crashes
MOSCOW (AP) _ A Russian military jet crashed in southern Russia on Thursday, but the fate of the two crew members was unknown, an official said.
The Su-24 fighter-bomber crashed during a training flight near the city of Novorossisk, 500 miles south of Moscow, said Viktor Beltsov, a spokesman for Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry.
Military officials found the crash site but still did not know why the plane went down or what happened to the two crewmen aboard, Beltsov said.
There have been a string of Russian military aircraft crashes in recent years due to a shortage of funds that has reduced the level of maintenance and training.
