ACTC offers medication aide classes next month
ASHLAND — A Kentucky Medication Aide course will begin Aug. 14 at ACTC. The course will prepare nurse aides administer specific medications in long-term care facility, as delegated and supervised by a licensed nurse.The course combines classroom and laboratory activities with clinical practice in long term care agencies.
Students learn concepts of medication administration, basic pharmacology, drug therapy for common disease processes, age related variations to medication administration and the role of the medication aide.
Registration is open to nurse aides who are currently on the Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry and who have been employed at least six months as a nurse aide in a health care facility within the past two years. A placement test must also be taken with minimum scores at a tenth grade level in reading and math. An ACT composite score of 18 is also acceptable.
The course, which runs through Oct. 4, will be from 10 a.m.-2:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Technology Drive Campus.
The fee is $885 plus $11 liability insurance fee and a book. Class size is limited. Another course will be offered beginning Oct. 15.
