Stay safe when driving this fall season

November 8, 2018

NORFOLK - The City of Norfolk wants to remind you to be safe when out driving during this fall season.

Public Safety Director Shane Weidner says with the time change and winter weather around the corner, there are many things you need to look out for.

Weidner says the number one thing you should do when driving is pay attention to your surroundings.

He says with the night sky coming earlier and staying longer, it can be more difficult for drivers to see objects such as animals and pedestrians.

Weidner says also the fall marks the beginning of the deer breeding season.

He says deer are especially active at this time, particularly around sunset and sunrise.

Weidner adds winter weather is just around the corner, and you should make sure that your vehicle is winter ready from the tread on your tires to how your windshield wipers are performing.
