Depositions due in trial of man charged in Arlington killing
ARLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Attorneys say they’re going to begin depositions in March for the trial of a Vermont man accused of stabbing an elderly woman to death in the town of Arlington.
The Benning Banner reports that Timothy Butler is due to be tried in August for the killing of 81-year-old Helen Jones in her home in early January, 2017.
The stabbing death touched off an intense investigation, with detectives from the Major Crime Unit of Vermont State Police and other personnel from around the state participating. Officials arrested Butler after recording some of his conversations.
Butler has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and a felony count of burglary.
Attorneys provided an update on the trial preparation on Friday. They say depositions are supposed to wrap up in the spring.
