Foot Locker Taps Champs Sports Head

NEW YORK (AP) _ Sports apparel giant Foot Locker Inc. has named the head of its Champs Sports division the new chief executive of the parent company’s U.S. retail operations.
Rick Mina assumes the newly created position of president and CEO of Foot Locker Inc. USA. He had served as president and CEO of Champs Sports since 1999, improving sales in the mall-based sporting goods retailer for the past three years.
Mina will oversee Foot Locker/Kids Foot Locker, Lady Footlocker and Champs Sports.
``Rick has done an outstanding job in managing our Champs Sports division, significantly growing its sales and profits,″ said Matthew D. Serra, Foot Locker Inc.’s president and chief executive.
Foot Locker said sales grew by $135 million and operating results improved by over $80 million in Mina’s three-year tenure at Champs Sports, which is based in Bradenton, Fla. Mina had previously overseen Foot Locker Inc.’s European operations.
Ron Halls has been named chief executive and president of Champs Sports.
New York-based Foot Locker, Inc. operates about 3,017 stores in the United States.
Foot Locker shares rose 13 cents to close at $10.20 Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange.
