S.A. restaurant and bakery opening April 10 in old Crumpets

April 2, 2019

The Hearthstone Bakery Cafe era at the former Crumpets Restaurant and Bakery will begin April 10.

In September, Hearthstone bought the old Crumpets space, which had been in business for 38 years in a wooded lot on Harry Wurzbach Road inside Loop 410. Hearthstone owner Jason VandeBerg looked at the acquisition as a prime opportunity to expand his brand.

“We were sad to see Crumpets go ... it was a true icon of the food scene in San Antonio,” VandeBerg said in a statement. “We are extremely excited to revive the building and get it back to serving great food to the community.”

Hearthstone features a lineup of sandwiches, fresh salads, pastries and boxed lunches.

In addition to the standard sit-down service offered at Hearthstone, which has been in business for more than 10 years, the new space will feature event and catering space that will have feature additional meal options.

Hearthstone has a second location in Olmos Park (4212 McCullough Ave.), but closed its space inside The Forum to make the move to Harry Wurzbach Road two weeks ago.
