Military Helicopter Crash Kills Mexican General, Injures Three
MEXICO CITY (AP) _ A military helicopter was caught in a downdraft and crashed in southern Guerrero state on Thursday, killing an army general and injuring three other officers on board.
A Defense Department news release said the strong burst of wind sent the helicopter crashing against a hillside as it was trying to land in the small port of Puerto de Gallo shortly after 10 a.m.
Brig. Gen. Gilberto Renato Garcia Gonzalez, commander of the 27th Military Zone, was killed, the news release said. An infantry captain, an Air Force lieutenant piloting the craft and a mechanic suffered light injuries.
