PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) - Silverdome officials are considering expanding the stadium’s 102 luxury suites and adding bathrooms to bring the facilities on par with those at the nearby Palace of Auburn Hills.

The plan would take out the glass-enclosed suites’ front windows and extend the suites two rows into the Silverdome’s club-level seating. The extra space would make room for restrooms. Silverdome suiteholders now have to use public restrooms.

The Pontiac Stadium Authority approved a proposal Tuesday to let architect Carl Luckenbach draw up preliminary plans. Ed Adler, an authority member, said the goal was to make the Silverdome suites more competitive with those at the Palace and downtown Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena.

If the plan is approved, stadium officials would have to negotiate with the NFL’s Detroit Lions for use of the two club-level rows. Adler estimated the project’s cost at about $10,000 per suite.
