Kenyan Woman Wins in Her First Marathon

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) _ Emily Chepkomi Samoei of Kenya pulled away shortly after the start and won Sunday’s Columbus Marathon in 2 hours, 38 minutes, 39 seconds in her first attempt at 26.2 miles.

Samoei finished nearly five minutes ahead of runner-up Tatiana Belovol of Ukraine.

In the men’s division, Eliud Kering of Kenya pulled away in the first mile and was never challenged, winning in 2:18:39.
