Movistar rider Dowsett to have surgery on broken collarbone
MADRID (AP) — The Movistar cycling team says British rider Alex Dowsett will need surgery after fracturing his collarbone in a training accident.
The team says the accident “seriously damaged” Dowsett’s plans to challenge the UCI Hour record on Feb. 27. It says whether “Dowsett’s attempt will go on as planned or be postponed will be specified in the next few days.”
The Spanish team says Dowsett crashed while training on Tuesday near his home in Essex.
Dowsett is the time-trial gold medalist from the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
