Dortmund beats Anderlecht 3-0 with Ramos double
BRUSSELS (AP) — Colombian international Adrian Ramos struck twice after forward Ciro Immobile had opened the scoring in the third minute as Borussia Dortmund swept to a convincing 3-0 victory over Anderlecht in Group D of the Champions League on Wednesday.
Dortmund immediately shrugged off its Bundesliga struggles, and when Japanese playmaker Shinji Kagawa sent Italy’s Immobile through for an easy goal, the difference in class was immediately clear.
Ramos stabbed home a pinpoint deep pass from Lukasz Piszczek in the 65th minute for the second and followed up with a show of close control in the 79th, taking the ball from the wing, turning and curling a third goal past Silvio Proto.
“We faced a team which was two classes better than we were,” Proto said.
The victory left Dortmund with six points from two games, three ahead of second-place Arsenal, which beat Galatasaray 4-1.
Anderlecht and Galatasaray have one point each.
Even before Ramos’ double, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang should have put the game away for Dortmund in the 10th minute, but after more fine preparatory work from Kagawa, the Gabonese forward inexplicably missed an open goal.
Both teams had strong claims for goals dismissed for offside during an exciting first half at the Vanden Stock stadium in Brussels.
Even though Dortmund came into the game with a slew of injuries, and with only one point from its last three games in the Bundesliga, the 2013 finalist immediately imposed itself on the match — much as it had dominated Arsenal two weeks earlier.
Anderlecht’s best chance came in the 74th minute when Aleksandar Mitrovic rifled a shot from close range onto the post.
