Live Updates: Tunkhannock Handed 1st Loss At LLWS
The undefeated majors softball team from Tunkhannock returns to the diamond 7 p.m. tonight in Portland, Oregon, where it plays Southeast (Daniel Boone LL from Gray, Tennessee) in the Little League World Series.
Tunkhannock enters the game 2-0. It beat Canada, 2-0, on Wednesday; and blew out the Czech Republic, 17-0 in three innings, on Thursday. In case you missed it, here’s my live blog from Thursday’s blowout.
Southeast, meanwhile, is 0-2. It lost against West (Kirkland LL from Kirkland, Washington) and Canada.

Tonight’s game will be streamed on ESPN+.
Updates to follow after first pitch.
TOP SIXTH: Tunkhannock gets on via infield error. That’s a leadoff runner at first. But a double play and then a grounder later ... and the game’s over. Tennessee 1, Tunkhannock 0. That’s Tunkhannock’s first loss, as it drops to 2-1 and Tennessee improves to 1-2 in pool play. Tunkhannock will play West (Kirkland LL in Washington) at noon Saturday.
BOTTOM FIFTH: Tunkhannock turns an impressive 6-3 double play to end the inning. Tennessee still up 1-0. Last bats coming up for Tunkhannock.
TOP FIFTH: Ella McNeff slaps a leadoff single for Tunkhannock. She’s on base for the third time today. McNeff steals second. Kerr also gets on base after being hit by pitch. Tunkhannock has runners at first and second, nobody out. Tunkhannock grounds into a fielders choice and Tennessee gets the out at third. So, it’s still two runners on but one out. Ultimately, Tunkhannock is unable to score. Tennessee still has a 1-0 lead.
BOTTOM FOURTH: Tennessee goes down 1-2-3, but still leads 1-0.
TOP FOURTH: Tunkhannock has runners on first and second with one out. On a wild pitch, Tunkhannock moves the lead runner to third ... but the other runner is tagged out at second. Then a strikeout ends the inning. Tennessee leads Tunkhannock 1-0.
BOTTOM THIRD: Tennessee takes a 1-0 lead. Tennessee had one girl walk and another be hit in the helmet with a pitch, putting two runners on base. Then, Tennessee gets its first hit of the game. Tennessee then loads the bases with another player getting on first via error. However, Tennessee leaves the bases loaded to end the inning. Tunkhannock is down 1-0.
TOP THIRD: Nothing doing for Tunkhannock on offense. A 1-2-3 inning. 0-0.
BOTTOM SECOND: Tennessee goes down 1-2 ... and then the third batter reaches on a bunt single. However, we go to video review. Yes, this stage of the LLWS has video challenges. And on further review, the base runner was out. 0-0 onto the third.
TOP SECOND: Sydney Huff gets a bloop single to right, giving Tunkhannock a leadoff runner. Grounder moves Huff to second for the first out. Huff moves to third on a passed ball. Umpire punches out Alexis Gilroy for a called third strike on a pitch that was several inches outside. That’s two outs, but Huff is threatening at third. Walk. Runners at the corners with two outs. Leadoff hitter Ella McNeff, who singled in the first, walks to load the bases. Elaine Kulsicavage rips a grounder at the third baseman, who makes a great play to stop the ball and get the third out. 0-0.
BOTTOM FIRST: Kaya Hannon pitching once again for Tunkhannock. She’s been unreal so far in this tournament with 21 strikeouts, three hits and only one walk in nine innings pitched. Oh, and zero runs. Tennessee goes down 1-2-3. Tennesse had its third batter reach base on an error, but she was called out for a baserunning error.
TOP FIRST: Tunkhannock gets two hits and a player hit by pitch. But nobody scores. 0-0.
