Man wearing earphones struck, killed by train in Mississippi
PICAYUNE, Miss. (AP) — Officials say a man wearing earphones while listening to music has been struck and killed by a passenger train in Mississippi.
Pearl River County officials told news outlets that the man was struck while walking close to railroad tracks south of Picayune on Monday morning.
Coroner Derek Turnage said the victim was 20-year-old Colton Hall, who lived nearby in the Nicholson community. Turnage said family members said Hall often listened to music using earphones. The coroner said there was no indication that Hall heard the train or meant to harm himself.
Turnage said that engineers on the Amtrak train said Hall was walking very close to the tracks. The coroner notes it’s illegal to walk on the railroad property.
No one on the train was hurt.
