Crash causes power outage in northeast Odessa

Many people — including Permian High School — were without power after a car crashed into a power pole early Thursday morning in northeast Odessa.

The Odessa Police Department detailed in a press release that at 5:46 a.m. a white 2012 Kia SUV veered off the road and collided with a power pole, causing several power lines to go down, near the intersection of 42nd Street and Dawn Avenue.

The areas affected included 42nd Street and Grandview Avenue, 42nd Street and Tanglewood Avenue, 42nd Street and JBS Parkway, 42nd Street and Preston Smith Road, Highway 191 and East Loop 338, 52nd Street and Grandview Avenue, and 52nd Street and JBS Parkway.

Gus Ortega, Oncor Electric customer operations manager, said over the phone late Thursday morning that 95 percent of the customers have had power restored. He said there were crews working to fix the last of the power outage.

According ECISD’s Facebook page, power was restored to Permian High School at about 8:30 a.m.

There were no reports of injuries, the OPD release stated.
